Symbol Mastery helps the learner to become aware of how letters and words look when created three dimensionally. As well it introduces the idea of what a word is and how it is made up of three separate parts: pronunciation, spelling and definition. This is explored through the activity of 'Create - A - Word'. An activity which demonstrates the three parts of the word mentioned above. This knowledge can then be applied to learning the spelling words. For some learning styles a three dimensional visual image of the words meaning and spelling is required for mastery and understanding, which leads to consistent word recognition. For other learning styles this is a fun activity. These activities can be used either as part of a stand alone literacy program or as an addition to literacy programs currently being used. This is a " hands on" workshop which explores a different way of presenting the alphabet and spelling words. This session will be relevant to Kindergarten and Grade One.
