Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is often referred to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on steroids. Problem behaviours are seen as learned responses to unbearable emotional states with impulsive behaviour and emotional reactivity seen a highly effective, although dysfunctional, emotional regulation strategies. This skill based model focuses solely on coping skills in four areas (mindfulness, to help reduce emotional dysregulation and highly emotional reactivity in children and teens as well as families. DBT skills are applicable to all environments and persons who may suffer from highly emotional experiences in any environment. DBT skills are particularly useful in school settings to minimize time management of high maintenance and unstable students.
