Competencies for stewardship and citizenship

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Dr. David Orr states, “Given the vulnerable state of our natural world, we need a different approach to education” - one that not only develops knowledgeable students, but also, environmentally and socially conscious citizens. What knowledge and competencies do Alberta students need to create a sustainable future?  How do we increase literacy about the environment, energy and climate change? We’ll share the Curriculum for a Sustainable Future that you can use to enhance your own teaching and link you to many environmental education resources and grants. We’ll also explore how you can use this to engage in new curriculum development. We’ll share classroom inquiry or project-based learning examples from Grade 1 to 9 and a Biology 20 unit to help you develop your own project or inquiry to deepen student learning that helps them develop competencies to be environmentally and socially conscious citizens.
