Maker, Shaker, Tinker, Thinker: K to 3

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Tinkering is an inquiry approach to learning anything. In this session we will make links to REAL Science and REAL Math with links to Alberta curriculum. This is hands on, minds on. When you tinker you do, make, observe, experiment, take things apart and put them back together. When you tinker you use your hands in co-ordination with your eyes to build and refine fundamental motor skills. When you tinker, you learn to slow down and take time to troubleshoot mistakes, practice and persevere. When you tinker you develop and refine critically important spatial reasoning skills. Skills that are now recognized to be the number one predictor for success in mathematics and science across the grades. This highly participatory session will engage participants in tinkering tasks that develop key thinking skills. (if you participated last year, this is a whole new set of inquiries and feedback tools.)
